Airbus has decided to tidy up your room. No more space stations like the ISS, the International Space Station, with cables stretched everywhere and objects floating in all directions. With LOOP, give way to organization. The aerospace specialist has just presented a versatile orbital module, a vision of the space station of the future with the appearance of a space triplex.
A cylindrical triplex
With Loop, Airbus offers a cylindrical triplex eight meters in diameter, with three floors. One for the crew, another for scientific experiments and a third with a centrifuge to recreate the conditions of Earth’s gravity. A futuristic project that is almost reminiscent of the most beautiful movie space stations, with exercise bikes and even a central greenhouse.
This module is especially made to measure for long stays in orbit, of course around the Earth, towards the Moon and why not towards Mars.
Replace the International Space Station
The Airbus LOOP capsule can accommodate 4 astronauts, or even 8 temporarily. It is also compatible with all crew and cargo vehicles of today and tomorrow, the manufacturer specifies.
The icing on the cake, this station caters to the new generation of heavy launchers. The module is shipped in one go and is immediately operational. This project could replace the international space station at the end of its life, says Airbus, or be used for commercial or institutional activities.
