Alstom will supply the new trams in Strasbourg

The eight-year contract includes a minimum order of 22 trains for an amount of 250 million euros.

Another good contract for Alstom in the effervescent market for urban trams. The manufacturer was once again chosen by Strasbourg Eurometropolis and CTS (the public transport operator) to supply the new trains for the Strasbourg network, a pioneer in this field since 1994.

The eight-year contract includes a minimum order of 22 trains for an amount of 250 million euros. They will be manufactured at nine Alstom plants in France. As a reminder, the current equipment in circulation also comes mostly from Alstom factories.

Consumption reduced by 20%

“The first order will initially include 12 Citadis trains, then an additional 10 trains will follow in a second stage. Other trains may be ordered during the 8 years of the framework agreement to meet the needs of the Eurometropolis transport offer. The first deliveries will take place in March 2025 for a start-up scheduled for the end of that same year”, can be read in a press release.

These new trams are characterized in particular by their energy sobriety, they reduce energy consumption by at least 20% compared to current equipment, thanks to new motorization, efficient climate comfort management and 100% LED lighting, explains the French group. These trams are also 95% recyclable and 99% recoverable.

Alstom also promises to reduce maintenance operations by 30% during its 30 years of commercial operation of these trains.

The company recalls that to date it has sold more than 3,000 trams from the Citadis range to 70 cities in 20 countries around the world (including 23 cities in France).
