The CGT demands a power outage during Macron’s visit to Alsace

Received with boos, the President of the Republic saw his visit to the Alsace factory interrupted due to a power cut claimed by the CGT.

The CGT claimed responsibility for a power cut that occurred during President Emmanuel Macron’s trip to a factory in Alsace on Wednesday, without however leaving the premises in the dark.

“We announced it, the energy companies will be everywhere and it will be dark for the president!” Fabrice Coudour, federal secretary of the FNME-CGT, declared in a message to AFP.

During Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the Mathis company in Muttersholtz, the factory specializing in wooden constructions found itself without electricity without leaving the premises in the dark.

boos and bread noises

“The anger is there and we are not turning the page!” added Mr. Coudour on the pension reform, promulgated on Friday by the head of state.

The blackout lasted throughout the visit without preventing the president from continuing his meeting with the company workers, to whom he was able to speak via microphone.

The places were illuminated by skylights.

Although he did not meet any protesters in this Alsatian town, the President of the Republic was greeted there with boos and the noise of pans, with the cry of “Macron’s resignation”.

Even before their arrival in Muttersholtz, a few hundred demonstrators, some of whom wore CGT chasubles and carried a sign: “Macron non grata”, had been repelled by the police. They were then kept away from the factory, the surrounding area of which had been off-limits to protest.
