After a massive railway strike last Friday, Germany is preparing for a difficult Monday in the air.
In fact, security personnel at Berlin International Airport are called on strike on Monday for better wages, the Verdi union announced on Saturday.
“We must expect longer waiting times, even flight cancellations or cancellations” because of this social movement, organized all day Monday, warns the union in a press release.
Verdi had already called a strike for Thursday and Friday for the staff of several German airports, including Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne or even Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.
300 flights canceled in January
The union recalls that it has spent years “negotiating with the German Federation of Aviation Safety Companies (BDLS) increases in bonuses for night work, Saturday, Sunday and holidays, as well as better wages for additional hours.”
The union had already organized a similar strike at the Berlin airport in January, resulting in around 300 flights being canceled or rescheduled.
The inflation records recorded in recent months in Germany, with a maximum of 10.4% per year in October, have strained annual wage negotiations in the different sectors of activity in the country, sometimes accompanied by work stoppages.
A strike movement in the rail sector for better wages shut down almost all trains in Germany on Friday.
