The sardine fishery will reopen this Tuesday, with a series of daily limits on unloading and sales, but could be suspended or closed if the quota is exhausted, for example.
According to a diploma published last Friday in Diário da República, the sardine fishery will reopen this Tuesday from 00:00.
The limit for unloading sardines caught with purse seines is 37,642 tonnes, divided between the various vessels whose owner or shipowner is a member of producer organizations (PO) and the group that does not belong to the POs recognized for sardines.
Each of these groups will have 37,077 (98.5%) and 565 tons (1.5%) respectively.
The government has also set a series of limits regarding the offloading and sale of this fish, including a maximum of 607.5 kilograms (kg) – equivalent to 27 baskets – of sardines calibrated as T4.
For vessels equal to or less than nine meters in length overall, the limit is 1,800 kg or 80 baskets, if applicable.
Vessels with an overall length of more than 9 meters and less than or equal to 16 meters have a limit of 3,150 kg (140 baskets, if applicable).
Vessels longer than 16 meters cannot unload and sell more than 4,500 kg per day, equivalent to 200 baskets, if applicable.
The catching, keeping on board, unloading and selling of sardines is prohibited on all national holidays.
The order also prohibits the transfer of this fish to an auction other than that of the port of discharge.
In the same sense, the same ship cannot unload in more than one port per day.
