The French are still against the government project. Approval of the mobilization against the pension reform and the desire for it to continue remain in the majority of opinion, but have fallen sharply in two weeks, reveals an Elabe poll for BFMTV published on Thursday.
Carried out before the announcement of the rejection by the Constitutional Council of the shared initiative referendum, this survey indicates that 58% of the French support the mobilization (-5 points since April 17, 2023), including 63% of workers , and 65% of employees.
60% (-4) of the French want this mobilization to continue, including 36% (a sharp drop of 9 points) who are hardening. On the contrary, 39% (+4) of the French believe that this mobilization must stop.
French skeptics of the government
However, the pension reform continues to be the topic that the French (23% of them) cite first when asked about issues in the workplace “on which the executive, trade unions and employer organizations must negotiate”. Next come salary levels (20%) and hard work (14%).
But whatever the subject of future discussions between the unions and the executive, 76% of the French believe that “the government will not listen to or take into account the proposals” of the representative organizations of the workers.
Voters for Emmanuel Macron in the first round of the presidential elections (66%) and supporters of the Renaissance (66%) are the only ones who think that the executive will “listen”.
Finally, while the last few days of demonstrations have been marked by scenes of violence outside the processions, 17% of the French say they condemn and understand “violence with the police during demonstrations against the pension reform”. A vast majority (78%) say they condemn them and 68% of those surveyed “do not understand them”.

The representativeness of the sample was ensured according to the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age and profession of the interviewee, prior stratification by region and agglomeration category.
