Veolia posted a strong increase in turnover of nearly 20% to 12 billion euros in the first quarter, the French environmental services giant announced on Thursday, expecting “another year of strong growth” after record 2022 results .

Veolia’s revenues were €12.0bn (+19.9% ​​at constant perimeter and FX), compared to €9.935m in the same period of 2022, growth driven in part by sustained energy prices , which Veolia passes on to its customers.

Excluding the effect of the energy price, sales increased a further 6.3%. All businesses have benefited from the “good commercial dynamics”: the water segment (+9.9%), the waste activity (+3.2%) and especially energy (+54% at constant exchange rates ), “fundamentally due to the effect of the increases in the prices of heating and electricity sold, which reflects the very strong rise in the cost of purchased energy (gas, coal, biomass)”, details the group in its note of press.

The combined operating result increased by 14% to 788 million euros in the quarter, and EBITDA by 8% to 1,574 million, thanks in part to synergies and a savings program, highlighted the group present in 40 countries, which early 2022 absorbed a large part of Suez.

“We started the 2023 financial year at full speed and at full speed” with results that augur “a new year of strong growth” for 2023 and allow the group to “confirm” its objective of reaching the end of the year. of 1.3 billion euros and organic growth in EBITDA of 5 to 7% for the year, Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO, told reporters.

“These results demonstrate once again the solidity of our economic model and our ability to generate results, regardless of the level of inflation or economic growth, and above all our unique position as a leader in ecological transformation,” added the leader. of the group specialized in decarbonization, decontamination and resource regeneration services.
