Despite record inflation, Casino turnover fell by 2.3% in France

In financial difficulties, the distribution group is more expensive than its competitors and is losing customers.

Casino reported a 1% increase in its turnover in the first quarter on Thursday, citing a context that continued to be more difficult in its supermarkets and hypermarkets where price readjustment measures have been carried out.

The group indicates in a press release that it generated a turnover of 5.4 billion euros in the quarter, driven mainly by a 9.5% increase in sales in Latin America.

The sales of the distributeur Casino fell by 2.3% in France in the first quarter of 2023, a mauvaise performance in a context of inflation that lowered the sales of large distribution, and the group announced the jeudi avoir sensibly lowered its prices for attirer customers.

In financial trouble, the group has been unable, like some of its competitors, to limit price increases by squeezing its margins and has lost customers in recent months. Casino announced on Thursday that it has significantly lowered its prices to attract customers.
