Laurent Berger: “You have to stop paying aid to companies that have minimum amounts below the Smic”

A guest on BFMTV/RMC, Laurent Berger wants the government to put more pressure on professional branches that create low-wage traps by not aligning fast enough with the minimum wage.

If he assures that the battle for pensions has not ended, it is the same towards the social dialogue in companies that Laurent Berger is now looking at. The general secretary of the CFDT who is preparing to deliver Marylise Léon in June intends to resume negotiations with businessmen within companies and especially professional branches in the coming weeks.

“I say one thing to employers: on the issue of wage increases, we know that you are more than the government, he indicated this Thursday on BFMTV / RMC. Social dialogue in the company is also you who must take significant steps. We will go but it won’t be to ‘discuss’ there either.”

With the burning issue of branch minimums falling behind the minimum wage as the latter is reassessed. While 86 professional branches with more than 5,000 employees had minimum wages below the minimum wage in April, their number skyrocketed mechanically with the new increase in May.

“Today there are 151 branches out of 171 with more than 5,000 employees starting at levels above the minimum wage,” Laurent Berger revealed on Thursday. This is also true in public services. Today, a C category agent in the public service has 8 years in the Smic regardless of the development of his abilities, his progression… Because there are salary scales that start below the Smic. Individuals and in a multitude of professional branches.”

“More aid for low wages”

The Government encourages the social partners to negotiate faster to review their salary scales in order to avoid low salary traps, but the CFDT wants the executive to raise the tone by conditioning public aid

The union leader also wants to lead the battle for working conditions after months of fighting against the pension reform in the context of the hardship issue.

“On the issue of safety and health in companies, there is no commission for safety, health and working conditions in companies with less than 300 employees, they must be mandatory, you want. You know that this is the issue that also came up a lot during pension reform.

A claim that will take before the prime minister who invited the unions to Matignon to resume dialogue after more than a quarter of conflict.
