Although the government claims to want to lower taxes at the end of the five-year period, vagueness still reigns around the realization of this promise.
“We are going to work on it with the parliamentarians,” said the Delegate Minister of Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal, on BFMTV-RMC this Friday morning. “In terms of timing, it will depend on the reduction of the deficit,” he said.
Without VAT reduction
The minister ruled out, however, a reduction in VAT, which would mean “losses for public finances, of several billion euros, and nothing more for purchasing power.”
There have already been “reductions in VAT in certain sectors”, such as catering and hygienic protection, but “the price for the consumer has not dropped” because “it goes to the margin of the distributors”, he has advanced.
Gabriel Attal also ruled out new specific aid. “We are reaching the end of a logic of checks,” he assured.
