What help can homes that heat with wood benefit from?

Guest of Face to face of RMC and BFMTV, Elisabeth Borne confirmed that aid will be launched for households that use firewood for heating. Some devices already exist.

Like those that use fuel oil, homes that heat with wood will also be entitled to their device. This was what Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said during RMC and BFMTV’s Face to Face on Monday morning:

As a reminder, the head of government had already addressed the case of fuel oil and wood during her press conference on the energy situation on September 14. In particular, she had insisted on the fact that these two methods of heating could not benefit from the same price increase limitation devices as gas and electricity, since they were not subject to regulated tariffs.

However, during this same press conference, Agnès Pannier-Runacher indicated that the most modest households that opt for fuel oil and wood could opt for the energy check that ranges between 100 and 200 euros:

MaPrimeRénov, energy saving certificates, VAT

But there are aid plans prior to the current energy crisis for households that prefer firewood for heating. The best known is undoubtedly MaPrimeRénov’, which is aimed at all owners and all housing condominiums built for at least 15 years or for at least two years when replacing an oil boiler. This aid makes it possible to finance insulation, heating, ventilation or energy audit work. The subsidy varies between 400 and 11,000 euros depending on the beneficiary’s income and the ecological gain offered by the work. A small novelty this year, MaPrimeRénov’ is increased by 1,000 euros for eligible households between April 15 and December 31.

Households whose homes are more than two years old can also benefit from energy saving certificates (CEE) to partially or totally finance their installation of wood-burning appliances. Since 2011, almost half a million households have benefited from CES offered by providers in the form of discounts, bonuses or even vouchers. Again, the amount varies depending on the scope of work and the provider. Finally, there are more indirect aids, specifically VAT, which is reduced from 20 to 5.5% for the installation of an appliance, with the only condition that the work is carried out by a recognized professional craftsman who guarantees the environment ( GER).

Inflation in timber prices since the beginning of summer

All these devices can be combined and can make a difference for homes that choose to heat with wood, but are they enough at a time when wood prices are skyrocketing? Prices have risen 20% since June, in response to a sharp rise in demand. A situation that continues to attract a growing number of new entrants to the market, which maintains the inflationary effect. Elisabeth Borne mentioned this topic during her Face to Face:
