The job search engine survey shows that between January 2019 and March 2023, salary transparency in job advertisements increased in France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, as the pandemic “amplified the pre-existing trend “.

Low salary transparency in media, finance or medicine

In France, the share of ads showing a salary in total offers “almost doubled over the period,” reaching 49.5%, according to Indeed, the Netherlands saw a similar increase (48.4%). In Germany, “just over 2% of the offers showed a salary in January 2019, compared to more than 20% in March 2023”, while the United Kingdom fell from 58% to 72%, in fact attributing the differences between countries in part to cultural factors. factors

There are also significant differences between job categories. Among the most transparent work families in France are personal and medical care at home (79.1%), education and training (66.3%), air transport (64.8%) and catering (63%). ,4 %). By contrast, salary transparency in certain professions remains low, in media and communication (28.4%), banking and finance (33%) or medicine and surgery (35.3%) in France .

The higher the salary, the less transparency

In the four countries studied, Indeed finds that salaries for higher-paying jobs tend to be disclosed less frequently in job postings. The gap is particularly notable in France: the salary is indicated in 56% of the lowest paid jobs compared to 36% of the best paid professions.

Salary information is taken from job openings posted on Indeed. Salary transparency on job postings is calculated by dividing the number of unique posts that mention a salary by the total number of unique posts in a given month.
