United States: possible default as of June 1, according to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen

The Republican leader of the House of Representatives is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden on Tuesday to try to reach an agreement on the debt ceiling.

The United States could default as soon as June 1 if an agreement is not reached in Congress to raise the debt ceiling, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned again on Monday, citing updated data.

This June 1 date was released in early May and stuck to Monday, “with additional information now available,” Janet Yellen said in a letter to House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy.

He is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden on Tuesday to try to reach a deal on the debt ceiling.
