An operation of 536 million euros for the energy group, the main gas supplier in Spain.

The energy group Naturgy, the main gas supplier in Spain, announced on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with the French investment fund Ardian to acquire a large portfolio of Spanish renewable energies, for 536 million euros.

This operation, which must be concluded before July 2023, affects all the assets held by ASR Wind, a subsidiary of Ardian, the Spanish giant specifies in a press release sent to the Iberian Securities Market Police (CNMV). ).

This portfolio includes 12 wind farms with a total capacity of 422 megawatts (MW) already in service, as well as “advanced stage” solar farm projects with a capacity of 435 megawatts, the statement said.

Focus on wind and solar energy

According to Naturgy, the contract offers the possibility of replacing the old generators of the wind farms with newer and more powerful machines at the end of their useful life, expected on average to be 16 years.

Naturgy, which manages the Medgaz gas pipeline together with the Algerian group Sonatrach, which will link Spain with the Algerian gas fields, has spent several years increasing investments in the solar and wind sectors.

The Spanish group, which generated 1,650 million euros of net profit last year, currently has a renewable energy production capacity of 2,300 MW, with 88 parks in service.

The Ardian fund, created in 1996, currently manages $150 billion in assets in Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East, on behalf of public bodies, pension funds and private investors.
