IEFP trainees are entitled to 125 euros from 20 October

Young people who received an internship grant from the Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP) in September will be covered by the extraordinary support of 125 euros for holders of incomes up to 2700 euros gross per month instead of being considered dependents for the support of 50 euros per child, an official source of the Ministry of Labor clarifies to Dinheiro Vivo. According to a government decree published yesterday in Diário da República, subsidies created to mitigate the effects of rising inflation will be paid from October 20.

The doubt as to whether the IEFP scholarship holders fit into one regiment or another arose from several interns who were still charged in this year’s IRS statement on 2021 income. But in the reply sent to Dinheiro Vivo, the ministry under the supervision of Ana Mendes Godinho indicated that these young people are eligible for the support of 125 euros: “Interns, trainees of the ATIVAR.PT internship measure, as well as the beneficiaries of the Contract Employment Insertion (CEI) and CEI+, are covered by the extraordinary support of 125 euros”.

In this case, the payment will be made by Social Security and not by the Tax Authorities, as it takes into account the subsidy that the IEFP pays to the employer to support part of the salary. Holders of a research grant are only entitled to a check for 125 euros if they voluntarily pay social security, the diploma makes clear.

Beneficiaries must update the IBAN on the Social Security Direct website to receive the 125 euros by bank transfer. “If it is not possible to pay for the support due to insufficient information or invalidity of the IBAN, the payment will be made by money order,” the regulation clarifies.

For income holders, the transfer takes place via the tax authorities. “If it is not possible to pay the extraordinary aid due to insufficient information or invalidity of the IBAN, the transfer will be repeated monthly for the following six months,” according to the same diploma published in Diário da República. It means that after half a year, if the IBAN is not corrected, the taxpayer risks losing the check for 125 euros plus 50 euros per dependent.

Who has no income or has stopped working

Inactive people are also eligible for this support, namely the very long-term unemployed, older than 45, who are not registered in the employment offices or who do not receive social benefits, and also those who have simply stopped working. But with one condition: as long as the IRS return for 2021 is filed between April 1 and June 30 of this year.

“All taxpayers who filed the income tax return in 2021 and had the respective settlement with gross income declared up to 37,800 euros per year are entitled to extraordinary support of 125 euros,” the Ministry of Labor told Dinheiro Vivo when asked. or this layer of the population was also covered.

However, there is no reporting obligation for people with a gross annual income of less than 8,500 euros. Dinheiro Vivo asked the Ministry of Finance about the number of people who would fall into this income category, but did not receive a response until the end of the edition. According to the latest statistics from the Finance Portal, there are 1.4 million taxpayers with an annual income of up to 10 thousand euros. It is therefore plausible that a significant proportion of these taxpayers are not taken into account because they have not filed the IRS return.

About 3.1 million taxpayers with a monthly income of up to 2700 euros gross and 2.7 million retirees receive a minimum of 125 euros, plus 50 euros per dependent.

The 125 euros for holders with a gross monthly income up to 2,700 euros and the 50 euros for dependents up to 24 years or without age limit in case of disability are tax-free and will cover a universe of 3.1 million Portuguese, according to government estimates .

This measure is added to the half-board bonus which, together with the normal benefit, will be paid on October 8 for all social security pensions and on October 19 for pensions of the Caixa Geral de Aposentações. If the total supplement for pensioners, ie the sum of the bonus of all pensions that a pensioner receives, is less than 125 euros, the government guarantees that it will pay the difference later until that amount is reached.

This aid is intended for 2.7 million retirees and is subject to the IRS. As Dinheiro Vivo has already reported, pensions from private funds are considered income, so their holders receive the check for 125 euros and not the pension supplement.
