O’Halloran: So absolutely gorgeous, it felt like it was condensed into “These moments matter, let’s do it”. Personally, I really wanted them to matter, and so did she. … It’s like working with Jeff. Every time I get close to Jeff, it doesn’t take long, we’re back [our] It’s the same with Rosario, and it’s just a testament to his professionalism. There are these kinds of things that I really enjoy working with her on, I really like these characters, I really like this universe, that she just brought it.
The ending of the film makes this conversation even more poignant, as we see Dante suffering from a heart attack and eventually dying after watching Randal’s finished film. Pushed into the afterlife by his beloved Becky, he is a moment off the left field; also with Employees III trailer teasing how Dante nearly died in the original ending of employees. It’s also arguably the most heartbreaking moment in Kevin Smith’s career, because Brian O’Halloran’s character’s death is so sudden and devastating for Jeff Anderson’s Randal.
Although his interactions with Rosario Dawson only represented a handful of moments in the supposedly final chapter of the employees legacy, Brian O’Halloran absolutely helps make the most of their time. Everything from hilarious calls to genuinely heartbreaking dialogue occurs in these scenes, with Dante’s final farewell delivering a bittersweet blow to seal the deal.
