Deepfake technology seems invasive and more than a little dangerous. A large number was posing as Tom Cruise in viral videos for years, and also he approached stardom to try to get your permission. Hollywood studios use deepfake technology for important seniors in the Star Wars universe, or to satisfy the curiosity of fans what a classic character would be like if the original actor could still play them. But Bruce Willis appears to be making history by becoming the first actor to sell the rights to his likeness so that a deepfake company can recreate him in future projects.
Deepfake uses digital technology to create the image of a famous person and place it on another replacement actor. You can make it look like the actor is doing anything. Bruce Willis licensed his image to be used by a company called Deepcake, which used it to create an advertisement for a Russian telecommunications company. In the ad, “Willis” is linked to a bombshell with another spy agent. The digital counter runs until “Willis” reveals the password which will interrupt the countdown. Except it’s not Willis at all. He allowed this performance to take place digitally and never had to set foot on a set.

I liked how accurate my character was. It’s a mini movie in my usual action comedy genre. For me it is a great opportunity to go back in time. With the advent of modern technology, even when I was on another continent, I was able to communicate, work and participate in filming. It is a very new and interesting experience and I thank all of our team.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Bruce Willis he retired from acting due to his constant struggles with aphasia. This new technology, whether you agree or not, opens the door to the conversation that someone like Willis could afford to keep appearing in more projects, without needing to be there. He does, however, tell the jokes about the recent live-action film series that Willis had made, despite his family he swears he hasn’t been exploited . These would not be performances, but they would keep the star in the public consciousness. Only, hopefully, something bigger than a Russian advertisement.
