Matt Reeves’ the Batman underwent many cast changes during the making of the critically acclaimed film. It has clearly been a long audition process for many, with many actors like Jonah Hill being approached for different roles in a new dark version of the Hooded Crusader. Eventually, the perfect cast was assembled, with many acclaimed actors giving outstanding performances. One of those actors was Barry Keoghan, who wowed fans with a sequence (plus a deleted scene) in which he played the Joker. But it was recently revealed that the Joker was not the character Keoghan originally auditioned for.
This week UK gq acquired and released Keoghan’s audition tape for the Batman On Twitter. The Slaughter of a sacred deer the actor seems to sneak through the corridors, very scary, with a bowler hat, a cane and braces. Performance is something like this A Clockwork Orange, as Keoghan appears to be channeling Malcolm McDowell into a unique performance as the Riddler. Watch the following video:

While he’s definitely an interesting take on the iconic character, it’s clear that Reeves wanted to go in a different direction with The Riddler. In the Batman, the character is reinvented as a chronically online chaos agent who wants to see the world burn through a series of puzzles and clues. Keoghan’s performance is eerie and quiet, letting his body language channel the character. Paul Dano, who was cast in the role, is far more edgy and vocal, with his bizarre rendition of “Ave Maria,” one of the film’s most memorable scenes. This version of the character was inspired by the Zodiac Killer, and Dano’s previous performances seemed to be closer to what the director wanted for the role.
However, the casting director and Reeves were clearly impressed with Keoghan’s audition tape. The Dunkirk The star was chosen to play the iconic role of the Joker. While the role was a kind of cameo Batman, the film’s ending allowed Keoghan to return as a character in potential sequels. Even from the small part we’ve seen of the actor, fans can already tell that he may just be one of the best actors to play the iconic character. He has a lot to do, as the role has already won an Oscar for two different actors. But he clearly understands the character’s idiosyncrasies. Can’t wait to see it more.
batman 2 it’s officially happening and a writing team was confirmed last month, so it won’t be long before fans see Barry Keoghan return to the famous character. While the film’s story has yet to be revealed, Paul Dano joked that he is interested in returning to his character. Perhaps we can count on another incredible interaction between The Joker and The Riddler as Arkham Asylum inmates. Fans are already theorizing what Keoghan might look like in the highly anticipated sequel, so the actor clearly has the backing of the audience.
I will personally wait batman 2, because Matt Reeves clearly has a lot to offer.
