“One Piece”: Netflix’s live-action series enthusiastically received by fans in Paris

The first two episodes of the live-action adaptation of the famous manga aired on Tuesday night at the Grand Rex. Fans warmly applauded the project despite initial reluctance.

“Special effects are great”

The first season covers the entire “East Blue arc”, that is, the first twelve volumes of the saga. If narrative liberties are taken, the spirit of the manga has been respected, especially thanks to the energy of the actors, all very convincing according to the fans gathered Tuesday at the Grand Rex.

“Of course, they made some changes, otherwise it would take too long. But they’re turning cream and the special effects are great. Especially for Luffy and his stretchy arms, and Buggy too.” [le pirate clown, NDLR]that breaks into pieces”, rejoices to AFP Marouane, a 22-year-old fan.

“He’s a real killer,” enthused his One Piece-Passion side, a manga fan’s historical account. in a video posted on social media. “You are not prepared. It is a real revolution. As for adaptations, there will be a before and after.” One piece“.

“Pretty Classic”

Despite the duration, the combats sometimes lacking in scale and some key scenes whose transposition disappointed some fans, the bet is generally a success, estimate X (ex-Twitter) Kamal & Kyta, specialist cameramen in One piece:

“So of course we’d like it to be more like this or more like this, but it’s rhythmic, it’s fun, it’s self-deprecating, it manages to be soulful.” […] and epic […] The fights are successful, the choreography is well elaborated but still quite classic, it could be better but it’s not broken!”

“Rewriting the history of live action adaptations”

The bar was high: millions of readers were waiting for the One piece from Netflix cautiously after the failures of previous manga adaptations like Dragon Ball or of Saint Seiyathat he had not convinced.

“We want to rewrite the history of real image adaptations,” promised the platform, which recently suffered an avalanche of bad reviews after the broadcast of the adaptation of cowboy bopcanceled after one season.

Netflix has its back covered: Eiichiro Oda, author of the original manga started in 1997, supervised the entire series, which faithfully reproduces the costumes and sets of his work. Given its 105 volumes, the series could last for years if it’s successful.
