It’s a podcast with a dream cast. Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and John Oliver, the five biggest stars of the American late show, join forces for a podcast entitled Strike Force Five, in support of the writers on strike.
The hosts, whose shows are currently suspended due to the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strike, spend an hour joking around, swapping stories and talking about the strike. The podcast of this unique hitch is available on Spotify, but also on Instagram, where you can watch them on the mic.
Proceeds donated to striking writers
Proceeds from this 12-episode series will be paid to the Writers Guild of America (WGA), the writers’ union of approximately 11,500 members.
Hollywood authors have been on strike since early May; On August 9, the symbolic milestone of 100 days was passed. They demand fairer remuneration as well as protection against the development ofartificial intelligence.
The actors did the same on July 14. Therefore, the film industry is practically paralyzed.
This large-scale mobilization has its origin in the precariousness of the scriptwriting profession, due in particular to the advent of platforms. “Residual Rights” that they received every time their works were reused, on television or on DVD, are replaced by the streaming giants for a fixed amount paid each year, even in case of worldwide success of their work.
To compensate for this loss, the writers are asking for an increase in their remuneration, minimum guarantees to enjoy a stable job and a greater participation in the benefits generated by the streaming boom. In addition, they call for safeguards to be put in place against advances in artificial intelligence that, in the long term, could endanger the profession.
