Strike in Hollywood: Adam Driver attacks Netflix and Amazon

The American star Adam Driver criticized this Thursday the attitude of the Netflix and Amazon platforms before the strike movement of writers and actors that paralyzes Hollywood, during the presentation of ferrari by Michael Mann, in competition at the Venice Film Festival.

This historic movement aims to obtain better remuneration taking into account in particular the career of movies on platforms and regulating the use of artificial intelligence.

Adam Driver and the film crew are among the few productions that have obtained an exceptional agreement with the powerful union SAG-AFTRA to be able to promote at the Mostra, despite the strike.

“Why is it that a small distributor (like Neon, which distributes the movie ‘Ferrari’ in the US) can agree to (the union’s) demands but a big company like Netflix or Amazon can’t?” he asked himself during the press conference to present the film.

The exemption he received “makes it even more evident that some are willing to support the people they work with, and others are not,” he said, declaring himself “happy” and “proud” to be on the Lido to “support this film.”

“Show my solidarity”

“It is for all these reasons that it is not necessary to take the initiative to decide to support your union and I am here for that, to show my solidarity and show that what really matters is the people with whom you work.” he added she.

Director of ferrari Michael Mann also showed his “total solidarity” with the social movement, the day after the opening of the 80th Mostra. The day before, the president of the jury, the American filmmaker Damien Chazelle, had also expressed his support for the strikers.
