Faced with the difficulties facing the Restos du Coeur, Isabelle Nanty speaks up. The actress, face of the Enfoirés comparsa, asks for solidarity this Monday on BFMTV.
Restos’ goal is “to ensure that no one is next door and in need,” he says. “Fraternity is at stake in everyone’s conscience. The future of freedom and equality is in fraternity.”
On Sunday, the president of the association Patrice Douret raised the alarm by announcing that he would be forced to reduce the number of beneficiaries this winter, due to the increase in applicants combined with inflation. In response, the government announced €15 million in aid to Restos du Coeur. An insufficient endowment, according to the association.
Last year the Restos du Coeur served 171 million meals, that is, 20 or 30 million more than the previous year.
“Demand has multiplied by twenty in 35 years”
“Les Restos covers 35% of food aid in France. It’s a lot,” recalls Isabelle Nanty on Monday. “When you know that 50% are under 25, it’s scary. Youth is our future. [Il faut prendre] take care of this young man.”
“The solution is political,” he insists. “When Coluche created Les Restos it was a temporary solution. The demand has multiplied by twenty in 35 years. There is a real problem.”
And invite the private sector to also get involved in the fight against poverty: “I am waiting for the problem of the poorest to be eradicated. If the solution lies in the companies that put their hands in the dough, yes. I am not making a court order, but it seems absolutely logical to me.”
“We can’t leave so many people in need,” concludes the actress. “Young people will have a hard time finding accommodation this autumn. We have to help them and for free. We will cry twenty years from now when we no longer have anyone to help us, but we will not have helped them study. Now is the time to get in touch motion.”
