Star Trek: Discovery had a End of season at 4 stars with lots of news (and a great cameo ), but the season finale ended in a way that didn’t leave viewers an immediate idea of where the show was headed in season five. Fans were given a brief synopsis and new photo by Michael Burnham on occasion stellar trek dayand now we have another new nugget of information via Doug Jones. The Captain Saru actor has apparently confirmed that Season 5 is going in the direction fans want, especially when it comes to a story.
For anyone worried that Saru’s budding romance with Ni’Var president T’Rina will die out and fade before the start of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, worry no more. I mean, as long as Doug Jones says what he looks like in a recent interview collider in which he broadly commented what is happening with Saru in T’Rina in the fifth season:
The change is still happening, both for the story and for the characters, individually, and Saru is a part of it. My biggest concern at the start of Season 5 was, “Will my relationship with President T’Rina, my lovely Vulcan lady, continue?” I was happy to hear the answer, but I’ll let you find out what it is when you watch season 5.
Doug Jones did not come out and explicitly stated that Saru and T’Rina were still together Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, but it’s hard to read otherwise based on this comment. She is clearly a fan of the character’s courtship of him. It’s not just in this feeling, as many loved seeing Saru find love with the Ni’Var leader, but given how new everything was and how slow things were, it felt like it wasn’t going to last.
Assuming that Saru and T’Rina remain a couple a Star Trek: Discovery In Season 5, it would be interesting to see how far things have gone. Saru, of course, has his obligations to Starfleet, as well as being a member of the Ba’ul and Kelpian High Council. Spectators last saw him as Captain Michael Burnham’s second-in-command aboard the Discoveryalthough he’s elsewhere in Season 5, again with the High Council, or even in command of his own ship as a Starfleet captain, it’s unclear.
The fact is that Saru juggles many dishes and, above all, is dating the president of one of the main nations of the Federation. Their obligations, as well as T’Rina’s, could make it hard for them to connect in Season 5 as much as the fans want. Of course, we might be pleasantly surprised and see that both of them have made a lot more progress since we last saw them. I hope for the latter, albeit realistically, keeping my expectations low because I know there is a bigger story to tell in Star Trek: Discovery.
As for this story, we know that Starfleet is on the hunt for an ancient and powerful artifact that has been deliberately hidden for centuries. Unfortunately, there are others outside of Starfleet who are also aware of this great power, and there is a sense that this power can be misused if found by the wrong people.
It looks like season 5 is going to be one big epic adventure, but maybe there are some romantic moments in store this season? Especially since we don’t even know how things are with Michael and Book! They seemed reconciled afterwards Booker’s Breakup and Betrayal but who knows where things will end now that he’s off the ship.
