Jared Leto will soon wear Karl Lagerfeld’s catogan and dark glasses. The Oscar-winning actor will play the famous French fashion designer and former artistic director of Chanel, who died in February 2019, in a biopic of which he is also a producer.
As stated by the US media. the hollywood reporter, this film, which is still in the development stage, has been given the green light by the fashion house Karl Lagerfeld. At the moment, no name has been announced for the realization of this project.
“Karl would be proud of what we do, he was an artist […] a fashion designer, a photographer. We couldn’t define it. It was a creative power,” Jared Leto told the outlet. Daily Women’s Clothing.

For this biopic, Jared Leto enlisted three close collaborators of Karl Lagerfeld: Pier Paolo Righi, general manager of his fashion house, Caroline Lebar, vice president of image and communication, and Sébastien Jondeau, the fashion designer’s personal assistant and bodyguard. All three will serve as executive producers on the project.
“There are a multitude of relationships to explore. Karl had a career that spanned over 50 years and was close to many people, both personally and professionally. Examine as honestly as possible. We will focus on the key relationships that reflect different parts of his life,” says Jared Leto.
And to add: “With fame, most people […] seeing one or two sides of a person as presented through the public lens. Karl was a human being. We all have beauty in us and we all have flaws. We have masks and then we have moments where we take the mask off. I’m always interested in what’s behind the mask.”
