“For me, she is still there”: Etienne Daho pays tribute to Jane Birkin two months after her death

The singer salutes the memory of his friend Jane Birkin, who passed away last July.

“To me, she’s still there, I daren’t think she’s gone, that it’s not happening.” Almost two months after the death of Jane Birkin, Etienne Daho is once again paying tribute to her in front of the France Inter microphone.

“She defied the laws of medicine so much, she didn’t complain, she was a true warrior, someone bright,” the singer said on the September 2 show. The Ballad.

Etienne Daho remains shocked by her death on July 16 at the age of 76: “Her death, I told myself it couldn’t happen, it was a huge shock.”

“Jane is an artist in her own right,” she added, acknowledging her artistic heritage. “I wanted her to get out of the role of her muse, her lyrics are very cheeky, very free, poetic.”

“Unimaginable”

This is not the first time that Etienne Daho has paid tribute to Jane Birkin since her death. “It is unimaginable to live in a world without your light,” he wrote on Instagram the day she died, along with a black and white photograph of Jane Birkin.

In another message, published the following day, Daho had underlined its importance in his life and in that of the French: “Thanks to your talent, your elegant free beauty, your spicy, macabre and British humor, you accompanied our gloomy adolescence” .

Daho had produced and composed for Birkin’s last album. Oh! I’m sorry you were sleeping… released in 2020. The singer accompanied him there on two tracks.
