King Charles III paid tribute this Friday to his mother Elizabeth II, one year after the sovereign’s death, saluting “her long life” and “her dedicated services” and thanking the public for their support since her accession to the throne.
On September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 in her Balmoral Castle, in Scotland, after 70 years of reign. Her death sparked vibrant tributes across the UK throughout the mourning period. The first anniversary of her death, however, will not be marked by any major public events.
Charles III wrote a short message from Balmoral, where he spent part of the summer. A message also recorded on audio and broadcast on X, formerly Twitter.
“On the first anniversary of His Majesty’s death and my accession (to the throne), we remember with great affection his long life, his dedicated service and all that he represented to many of us,” the king wrote.
“I am also deeply grateful for the love and support you have shown my wife and me throughout this year as we do everything we can to be of service to all of you.”

Charles’ youngest son, Harry, at odds with the royal family, also had a few words for Elizabeth II, his grandmother, during a speech at a charity gala.
“Elle nous regarde tous ce soir, heureuse que nous soyons ensemble et que nous continuions à mettre en lumière une communauté aussi incredible”, at-il dit, lors de cet événement dédié aux enfants malades et à leur famille, qui se déroule en London . The last stay in the British capital of the prince, who resides in California with his wife Meghan, dates back to the month of June.
In a statement, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that “in retrospect, the scale of Her Late Majesty’s service appears even greater.” “Our gratitude for a life of duty and dedication continues to grow,” he added.
“As we continue to mourn (for Elizabeth II), we must be proud that her remarkable legacy continues to grow today under the reign of His Majesty the King,” said the head of the Conservative Government.
