Prince Harry paid tribute to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday night at the WellChild Awards ceremony, a charity that helps sick children and of which he has been a godfather for about fifteen years.
“As you know, last year I couldn’t go to the ceremony because my grandmother had just died,” she said. “As you also know, she would have been the first person to insist that she go to the ceremony instead of going to the bedside.”
“And that’s why I’m convinced, a year later, that she’s looking down on us from heaven tonight. She’s happy that we’re all together to highlight this amazing community,” he added again.
Harry was due to attend the ceremony last year with his wife Meghan Markle, but they canceled their visit at the last minute after the announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.
Tribute to Carlos
This 2023 WellChild Awards ceremony took place two days before the opening of the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf. Harry is the inspiration for this sports competition for the disabled reserved for war veterans.
This is Harry’s fourth trip to the UK this year. He had previously gone there for the coronation of his father, King Charles III, but also to appear in trials against the tabloid press.
King Charles III also paid tribute this Friday to his mother Elizabeth II, saluting in a brief audio message “her long life” and “her dedicated services” and thanking the public for their support since his accession to the throne.
