Tom Felton played Draco Malfoy in the iconic Harry Potter film franchise. Draco is a troubled son of evil parents who often dates the show’s villains. As such, Felton has had many scenes with legendary actor Alan Rickman, who played the enigmatic Professor Snape in the movies. While it was certainly an opportunity for a young actor like Felton to star alongside iconic theater and screen veteran Rickman, an incident led Rickman to get mad at Felton while filming a scene in Harry Potter So much so that the die Hard alum threw an F bomb.
In a recent Instagram video, Felton promoted his new memoir beyond the wand detailing various moments and memories of his acting career, including those of Harry Potter Film Felton, nostalgic for his time with the franchise, shared a fascinating story about a moment with Alan Rickman. The story may not have been as fascinating at the time, however, as Felton revealed:
Eventually, Alan Rickman told me bluntly, “Don’t step on my fucking cloak. I laughed. The Death Eaters and I looked at each other like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ It quickly became clear that he was definitely not joking. In the next take, the director was very interested and asked me to get as close to Alan as possible. And first we reached the center of the great hall [choking sound]. Keep in mind that the cape is tied around the neck. He nearly killed the poor man. He turned and gave me a look you never wanted to see. Fortunately, in the next take, someone else stepped on his cloak. So that took the heat out of me. But I’ll never forget the words “Don’t step on my fucking cloak”
I definitely understand why Rickman was mad at Felton, because it seems like every time the young actor stepped on Rickman’s cloak, he nearly drowned him. And Rickman as the menacing Severus Snape must have been incredibly intimidating, so it’s no wonder Tom Felton was freaked out by the incident. He was clearly doing his best not to step on the cloak, but from the shot of the scene it must have been very difficult.
Many stories have circulated about the veteran actor, as Rickman’s family recently published the diaries the actor has kept throughout his life. Alan Rickman sadly died of cancer in 2016, but his memory lives on. His co-stars Potter The films shared stories about his sense of humor and how generous he was in giving acting advice to child actors in the movies. Although it was recently revealed that he was often frustrated with working on the films, there was clearly a lot of love and Rickman had a huge positive impact on their lives.
Tom Felton clearly likes to get in touch with hers Potter roots, I’m so glad you shared this story with us. He said how much he likes answering fan questions about the movies and recently returned for the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special, now available to HBO Max subscribers. The special was filled with behind-the-scenes stories from the making of the Harry Potter films, including Felton and Emma Watson being lovers during filming. While nothing has come of this budding young romance, the actors clearly have lasting affection for each other.
