Actress Drew Barrymore resumed filming her talk show on Monday, despite the strike of writers and actors, which has paralyzed Hollywood for months. A decision that earned her an avalanche of criticism from the strikers: several of them demonstrated on Monday in front of the CBS studios during filming, as she reported in hollywood reporter.
American talk shows have been paralyzed since last May due to the writers’ strike demanding the authors. The actress announced the resumption of her Drew Barrymore Show on Sunday on Instagram, assuring that he would respect the terms of the strike:
“We will not talk about or promote films and series affected by the strike,” he wrote in particular.
“It hurts your writers.”
The news immediately sparked widespread criticism on social media, particularly among unionized screenwriters in the Writers Guild of America, the organization behind the strike.
“This hurts its writers and all union workers,” screenwriter Adam Conover reportedly wrote. Variety. “We will never forget”, warn another. “This is disgusting, Drew Barrymore.” says felicia diaan American television personality.
Demonstration in front of the venue
In a press release sent to hollywood reporter, CBS assured that the show will not use any “script covered by the writers’ strike,” which means, according to the magazine, that these new episodes will not have a script. However, of the authors I think this resumption encourages people to cross the picket line.
Thus, several of them demonstrated on Monday in front of the CBS offices in New York during the filming of the new episodes. Among them were the three WGA writers who regularly work for the program. The broadcast is scheduled to resume on September 18.
American screenwriters are on strike to demand fairer remuneration and protection from the development of artificial intelligence. The movement was joined by SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union, in July.
