Propaganda, photographs … Nazi documents discovered in the archives of the Argentine Supreme Court

In total, seven boxes were discovered in the files of the Supreme Court. They opened this Friday, May 9. A first content inspection revealed the existence of Nazi propaganda elements and photographs.

Argentine Justice found hundreds of documents and maps of members of Nazi organizations in boxes in the archives of the country’s Supreme Court, the Clarín newspaper revealed this Sunday, May 11.

The boxes, seven in total, opened on Friday and their content was classified, documented and maintained in the orders of the Supreme Court, to determine whether they can provide relevant information about events related to the Holocaust or the Nazis flight to Argentina.

According to the journalistic survey, a first inspection of the content revealed the existence of Nazi propaganda elements and photographs. On Friday, the Holocaust Museum of Buenos Aires opened on Friday, whose representatives were present when the boxes opened with the president of the Supreme Court, Horacio Rosatti, participates in the inventory and conservation work, according to Clarín.

Boxes that remain under seal for decades

According to the local press, the documents are linked to the restriction of the Customs Office, in 1941, of a burden sent to the German embassy in Buenos Aires from the German legation in Tokyo.

A parliamentary committee had confiscated justice to find out if these boxes could contain elements that probably compromise Argentina’s neutrality policy during World War II. The boxes have opened and left under the legal seal for decades.

It is estimated that thousands of Nazis crossed Argentina or took refuge there after the war. The most resounding cases are Adolf Eichmann, captured in Buenos Aires in 1960 and judged and executed in Israel; Josef Mengele, a doctor known for his experiences in prisoners, who hid in Argentina before fleeing to Paraguay and Brazil, where he died; And Erich Priebke, responsible for a massacre in 1944 during the German occupation of Italy.

The latter was arrested in Argentina and extradited to Italy in 1995, where he died in prison in 2013, fulfilling life imprisonment.
