The city of Liverpool wins Eurovision 2023

Two cities remained in the race to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. Ultimately, it was Liverpool who won against Glasgow.

It is in Liverpool that the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place. Two cities were still in contention at the end of September, Glasgow and Liverpool, selected from a list of seven cities.

The Eurovision contest, in which about forty countries compete in song each year, is traditionally organized in the country that won the previous edition.

However, it is Ukraine, which won the 2022 edition, with the group Kalush Orchestra and your song Stephanie. Considering that the security and operational guarantees “could not be fulfilled”, due to the war that is still raging in the country, the European Broadcasting Union decided to entrust the organization to the United Kingdom, whose candidate came in second place.

After denouncing this decision, Ukraine ended up accepting it.

“I think the BBC’s experience will allow Ukraine to present itself at the highest level,” Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkatchenko said on Telegram last July.

On August 24, the British Army’s Scots Guards Band performed the song Stephaniewhich has become a true anthem of the Ukrainian resistance, against the Russian invasion.

It was in Turin that the very political edition of 2022 took place, which deposed the Russians and crowned the Ukrainians.

About 20% of the Ukrainian territory is currently occupied by the Russian military, and many other areas are hit almost daily by Russian missile strikes.
