You never know who he might show up with Live Saturday night. Sometimes the presenter decides to go it alone and sometimes he brings famous friends with him to support him in some sketches and increase the power of the stars. Last night’s host Brendan Gleeson decided to take the latter approach and brought in his Irish friend and colleague Colin Farrell. The popular actor made a surprise entrance during Gleeson’s monologue, then appeared in another skit to be photographed.
Of course, the crowd was very excited to see Colin Farrell when he took the stage. He got a round of applause, but besides being there, it was also a lot of fun to see him interact with Brendan Gleeson. The co-stars have great chemistry together and you can see how much they like each other from the looks they exchange, which stood out a lot more in the second skit they were together in. Also, Colin Farrell had a mustache when he first came out, and I can’t help but comment that he eats your heart, Tom Selleck nonsense.
If you are about to appear Live Saturday night, you have to have fun. The fast-paced live show has a lot of costume changes, wigs and other props to change people’s look. If you have a chance to bend over and wear something ridiculous, you need to grab it. Even if it’s only for about twenty seconds like the one above.
In Gleeson’s case, the monologue also offered him the opportunity to show off his musical skills. The famous actor pulled out a mandolin during his keynote speech and played and sang a little while addressing the crowd. You can watch it, along with Farrell’s first appearance below …
However, that wasn’t the only time Colin Farrell appeared. He also had a performance in a more traditional sketch comedy in a bit about headshots. In what was one of the strangest sketches of the night, Brendan Gleeson played the grandfather of someone who was shot in the head. He stopped filming to make his mark and the photographer, played by Andrew Dismukes, was instantly mesmerized.
The grandson was quickly sidelined so that the photographer could photograph Gleeson, who starred in a variety of poses until he was joined by Colin Farrell, who played himself. The two have taken a lot of photos together, and it’s obvious how much fun they just enjoy hanging out together. Their chemistry was, once again, very evident, and it was a joy to watch them. You can see the full sketch below …
Live Saturday night There are now two episodes in season 48. Miles Teller kicked off the season last week and next Saturday Megan Thee Stallion will continue SNL’s first series of thrilling hostesses when she directs a double feature film and also performs in musicals. Expect to see the exciting new cast continue to grow and find her collective voice in the absence of all the cast members who have left over the summer.
