Joseph Baena absolutely killed him this season. Dancing with the Stars. He is one of the celebrity contestants in season 31 and has performed some pretty intricate dances with his partner Daniella Karagach. This week brought Disney + Night, with Disney’s generally popular dance contest night being a celebrated tradition. Couples wow audiences with choreography from some of Disney’s most iconic soundtracks as they impersonate the characters. This week, Baena and Karagach chose to do a performance of Herculeswho has a memorable connection with Baena’s father, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Baena and Karagach wore fantastic costumes in the inspired number. Karagach channeled the elegant Megara into a flowing purple dress, and Baena wore a mullet and brown pants, hallmarks of the Greek hero “Disneyfied”. You can see the two tearing apart the dance floor in their costumes below.
However, comparisons with Baena’s father did not go unnoticed by people. Schwarzenegger also played Hercules in the 1970s Hercules in New York. The similarities were not lost even in the father-son duo. Baena commented on the similarity to Page 6, saying:
It wasn’t until this week that I realized that, I mean, I always knew he was making the movie, but it was this week that I remembered that he did “Hercules in New York”, because he had done everything.
Schwarzenegger certainly did “it all”, at least in terms of acting. The former California governor made a career out of becoming a muscular action star in films such as the Terminator Yes Predator. With so many iconic roles to his credit, I understand how Hercules in New York it might go unnoticed. Baena later revealed that her father also enjoyed comparisons when they were brought to his attention.
The fact that he starred in that movie, it was really fun to make that connection. We talk about it, we laugh about it, “he continued.” It was one of her first films and probably not her favorite. But it was one of my favorite dances, so I was really excited.
It is amazing that these two have come together through such a unique connection. This isn’t the first time the father-son pair has been compared, because there is a lot that unites them. Not only is the resemblance between Schwarzenegger and Baena disturbing, but Baena has also shared training videos on her Instagram that are strikingly similar to Schwarzenegger’s bodybuilding days. Although Baena didn’t take her father’s famous surname to stand out as an actor, the similarities between these two are inevitable. I am happy with these two welcome comparisons as Baena embarks on her dance with the stars travel.
ETAP airs Mondays at 8:00 am ET on ABC. To revisit Joseph Baena’s already iconic dance numbers, previous episodes of this season are currently available for Disney + subscribers.
