Spoiler Warning: This article contains information on She-Hulk: lawyer season finale, “Whose Show Is This?” Therefore, read it at your own risk.
The season finale of She-Hulk: lawyer based on the explosive ending of episode 8, but it also rocked the story in a big way. Jennifer Walters’ self-awareness was amplified, as she raised the conventional endings of most of the MCU’s cymbals. This led Jen to go to Marvel Studios and meet K.EV.IN, a parody of the company’s president and lead producer, Kevin Feige. The two then went back and forth on some tropes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So with all of this, how exactly did Feige feel about narrative development?
Eventually, KEVIN paid tribute to Kevin Feige and his ability to make long-term plans for the MCU by making fun of the producer. The term reached showrunner Jessica Gao later she-hulkThe crazy ending “s” and she revealed a big surprise. It turns out that being robotic wasn’t the brainchild of Gao or the writers’ room. The idea apparently came from Feige himself, who apparently created something different from what fans had seen in previous productions. Gao explained in detail how things unfolded:
It was Kevin, the human Kevin, who said, ‘There’s no reason to do it. Why try to force this when it’s not what it should be? It’s not a Marvel movie, so why are you trying to finish a Marvel movie when it’s not what it is? This show was completely different from the start. This show was completely different from anything we had done before. It was so liberating that it not only gave me permission, but it encouraged me, it really pushed me to keep doing something different. That’s why it’s so cool to work with the human Kevin, because he’s open to that kind of thing.
So the super producer was also eager to break with the typical MCU ending. While the final product is very different from the norm, it matches the meta tone set in Jennifer Walters’ solo TV series. And the creative team’s drive to swing has definitely paid off. Jen calling KEVIN for tropes and unanswered questions is easily one of the best times of the season.
Although she finally got Kevin Feige’s approval, Jessica Gao admitted that she initially had a hard time understanding the ending. As Gao explained, she and her team first tried to achieve something that was more like what was expected of an MCU show finale. In her own words:
It wasn’t always the original ending – it was such a long journey to get to this point. I must have written about 20 versions of an ending, because when we got to the end I thought very badly: “I have to have fun”. We have to do something different. I have to do the Marvel ending. Marvel does things a certain way, you know, they follow certain rhythms, and that’s where I have to start aligning and doing it. This is really what I thought. Nobody told me, that’s just what I thought. So, I tried to live up to that and made so many different versions of what would be a typical Marvel ending, and none of them felt right.
Creating a satisfying season finale can definitely be a challenge, especially when you’re writing for a show that has laid the foundation for so many stories in one season. But luckily, Jessica Gao and company. landed on something that has an internet buzz. Kudos to her and Kevin Feige for not having a problem with depreciating.
