Amazon has been in the streaming business for some time now, but the company’s latest original series could take it to another level. Prime Video marked the launch of the highly anticipated new series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power last Friday, and the series has already made a good impression. The development of the series took some time, and of course, during this process, studio head Jeff Bezos gave some notes. And by reflecting on this, Bezos provided a humorous and self-deprecating version.
Let’s be honest here. Most Hollywood creatives seem to shudder at the very thought of having to take powerful notes. And as for the showrunners (JD Payne and Patrick McKay) and the writing team power rings, that feeling was probably even more intense considering Jeff Bezos was the one who provided the feedback. (I mean, he’s just the richest man in the world and one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry, after all.) From what Bezos says, the process wasn’t that bad of him, even when the writers didn’t listen to it:
Every showrunner’s dream, and I mean every showrunner’s dream, is to get script notes and first cuts from the founder and CEO. They loved it. I have to thank you both for listening to me every time you helped me, but most of all I have to thank you for ignoring me at exactly the right time.
Jeff Bezos certainly gave a cheery version of the relationship at the UK premiere of The Lord of the Rings show, where Variety was present. In the past, he has shown that he can laugh at himself, like that time joked that Leonardo DiCaprio showed up to steal his girlfriend . But when it comes to the show, his feelings seem to suggest that he and the creative team have formed a solid working relationship. And curiously, while Bezos was working with them, he himself apparently received advice from someone close to him.
During a speech at the premiere, the Amazon founder revealed that his son, a fan of JRR Tolkien’s fantasy series, gave him an honest assessment. Apparently, he told his father not to “spoil” the show. I’d like to think it’s a sentiment that was likely shared by many fans when the show was first announced. And so far, it appears that the former president and the company’s editors have heeded the warning.
power rings received mostly positive reviews by critics, with many praising its size and use of the franchise’s vast tradition. some think so Amazon gave the the Lord of the Rings show the best start possible, thanks in part to the strategy of the two-episode premiere. And as expected, more are coming. Indeed, the actor from Galadriel Morfydd Clark revealed what he already knows about future seasons speaking exclusively to 24 News Bulletin.
So with more seasons, more comments and ratings from Jeff Bezos and the company are likely to come. However, given the response to the show so far, I bet Bezos won’t shell out that much in the future. And if so, showrunners may end up (jokingly) ignoring some of them while going about their business.
The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power releases new episodes on Fridays, so be sure to catch a Amazon Prime subscription so you can check them out. Check out 24 News Bulletin too TV program 2022 for more information on other small screen offerings.
