After “Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan would like to direct a horror film

The director of “Oppenheimer”, nominated this year in thirteen categories at the Oscars, has revealed his intention to make a horror film in the coming years.

After science fiction, superheroes or historical frescoes, Christopher Nolan wants to expand his palette. The filmmaker “would love” to direct a horror film, he confided during a conference organized last Thursday at the British Film Institute in London.

“Horror films are very interesting because they are based on purely cinematographic effects,” said the director. “It’s about provoking a visceral reaction. At some point, I would love to make a horror movie.” And to add:

“But I think a good horror movie can only work if you have a really exceptional idea. And those are rare. I haven’t found the story that lends itself to that yet.”

“A very interesting genre”

“It’s a very interesting genre,” he insisted, specifying that he had introduced frightening elements into oppenheimer. “There are some. It was appropriate for the theme.”

Known for his complex blockbusters that are commercially successful but not always acclaimed at film awards, Christopher Nolan is this year’s favorite for the Oscar for best director.

Released last summer, oppenheimer tells the story of the father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Irish actor Cillian Murphy. This film dominates the nominations for the 96th Academy Awards with 13 nominations.
