The Conners may have made a moderate offer goodbye to OG star Michael Fishman with its fifth season, but the door was left (as always) partially open for guest stars to join in the fun and downfalls of the comedy family. So far this season, the biggest news has been Shameless veterinarian Ethan Cutkosky, who was brought in as Neville and Louise’s grandson, Caleb , marking the first reunion of Emma Kenney’s former co-stars. Now the ABC sitcom is ushering in another big one Shameless veterinarian in the form of William H. Macy.
The Emmy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated actor will join The Conners The fifth season at a currently unknown time, second television line . But even if we don’t know the when we know all this who Macy will photograph. He will appear at some point as a character named Smitty, who was one of Dan’s best friends in high school.
For some reason Smitty makes a trip to Lanford which brings him back in touch with Dan, but the fact that there are no details as to why he is there makes me think he will have unfortunate circumstances. I mean, The Conners sometimes brings new faces to stories that involve positive story arcs, but more often than not dark bases and sometimes absolute death . And a name like Smitty doesn’t automatically imply pungency and good luck, although the character’s class level can depend on the amount of facial hair Macy has at the start of the shoot.
William H. Macy is a known professional for playing hilarious comic roles, heartfelt dramatic moments, jaw-dropping tension and more, as evidenced his best movies and TV shows . So here’s the hope The Conners Showrunner Bruce Helford & Co. finds ways to take full advantage of these talents. Macy and Goodman could easily star in a series of their own, so I wouldn’t be mad if the whole episode was all about reuniting Dan and Smitty.
Speaking of those reconnections, first his big reunion with Ethan Cutkosky Emma Kenney was able to work on a small role with her Shameless starred as Noel Fisher in the second season. He reappeared in three episodes as Dan’s half-brother Ed, and it seems the writers wanted to give John Goodman another look into his past through Macy’s Smithy. And let’s not forget that current star Katey Sagal is also a Showtime comedy student, as she returned during Season 9 as Dr. Ingrid Jones, the recipient of what she believed to be Frank’s sperm. As you can imagine, I wouldn’t have any complaints if Louise played a major role in Dan and Smitty’s story arc.
Macy played Frank Gallagher for all eleven seasons of Shameless, earning Emmy nominations for six of those seasons. Earlier this year, she starred in the Hulu drama Royal Scheme. abandonment alongside Amanda Seyfried and is part of the cast of the upcoming comedy Maybe I wouldwhich also includes Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere, Diane Keaton and Emma Roberts.
