Alain Emery, known for being the star of the film white manePalme d’Or for the short film at the 1953 Cannes Festival, died at the age of 83 on Wednesday, May 22, reports Midi Libre.
Alain Emery was only 11 years old when he got the lead role in this film that tells of the encounter between the young fisherman Folco and a wild horse in the Camargue.
“My mother responded to an advertisement in the newspaper, which said verbatim, we are looking for a beautiful boy (…) about ten years old, who likes horses to film in a movie,” she told Midi Libre in 2020.
From cinema to restaurants
“They liked my physique,” he added. “They didn’t choose me for my acting skills, because I wasn’t an actor at all and I still am not.”
In fact, Alain Emery did not continue in the cinema. After a role in a soap opera, he left the audiovisual sector to work in the world of restaurants and wine.
According to Midi Libre, Alain Emery had settled in the town of Maussane-les-Alpilles (Bouches-du-Rhône), not far from Arles, and had become over the years “an essential figure in the region” , known “for her numerous interests and her sense of humor.”
