Morgan Spurlock, director and hero of the documentary “Super Size Me,” dies at 53

Morgan Spurlock, who caused a sensation in 2004 with his film in which he ate exclusively at McDonald’s for a month, has died of cancer.

Director Morgan Spurlock, known for his unconventional documentaries such as Super Size Me AND Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden?He died this Thursday, May 23, at the age of 53, his family announced.

According to his loved ones, Morgan Spurlock “died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on May 23 in New York.” The text also specifies that the director succumbed to “the consequences of cancer.”

“It is a sad day as we say goodbye to our brother Morgan. Morgan gave so much through his art, his ideas and his generosity. The world has lost a creative genius and a special man. I am proud to have worked with him.”

Morgan Spurlock made a splash in 2004 with Super Size Me, a documentary where food lived exclusively at McDonald’s for a month. It grossed $29.5 million and spawned a sequel in 2017.
