Cannes 2024: Selena Gomez’s joy upon knowing that she won a collective performance award

Selena Gomez received, along with the other three actresses from Jacques Audiard’s film, Emilia Perez, the acting prize at Cannes. Either way, she wasn’t able to go on stage on Saturday to receive the award, but she shared on Instagram her joy at hearing the news.

Selena Gomez also posted a message to thank the festival and director Jacques Audiard.

“Thank you Cannes! It is a great honor for me to be part of something as special as Emilia Perez -Jacques, thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me. @zoesaldana @karsiagascon @edgarramirez25 and everyone involved in this film blew me away. I love you.”

The Spanish-language film tells the story of a Mexican drug trafficker who becomes a woman and changes her life by turning her back on cartel violence. However, it was filmed 9,000 kilometers away, in studios in Bry-sur-Marne. The opportunity for two American stars, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez, to discover this corner of the Parisian suburbs.

“It would have been a challenge to film in Mexico. I looked for many locations there, but there were too many limitations,” explained the director. In the end, the studio “allowed me to make the images I wanted, without letting myself be contaminated by reality.” In Mexico, only an interior scene and a village procession were filmed.

Jacques Audiard won the jury prize.
