Beware of thieves! The house from the cult movie “Mom, I Missed the Plane” was put up for sale this Friday, May 24, for the sum of 5.25 million dollars, or approximately 4.8 million euros, reports the American media CBS News. .
Located at 671 Lincoln Avenue, in the town of Winnetka, near Chicago, the house had served as a huge playground for young Kevin McCallister, 8 years old, forgotten by his family who went on vacation for Christmas. Faced with thieves trying to enter his house, the boy litters the house with multiple traps of all kinds.
Five bedrooms, six bathrooms.
Built in 1921, the house has been completely renovated since the first broadcast of the film “Maman j’ai miss l’avion”, produced in 1990 by director Chris Columbus. Gone are the flower tapestries and antique furniture, the family home now has a much more refined style. In total, the immense 848 m² residence has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a basketball court and extends over three floors.
On Saturday, May 25, real estate agency The Dawn McKenna promoted it in a video posted on Instagram. “While much of the house will look familiar, you won’t believe what the sellers have done to transform this famous home,” the estate agency writes.
iconic pieces
However, the most emblematic, successful pieces have been little or not touched up at all, much to the relief of the film’s fans. Thus, the grand staircase and hall remain largely recognizable thanks to the current owners who “have taken the greatest care to preserve the architectural details and integrity of the most memorable spaces of the house,” describes the real estate agency in its advertisement.
It is not the first time that the famous residence has been put up for sale. In 2012, the McCallister house was purchased from the previous owners for $1.6 million. In December 2021, on the occasion of the sortie du film “Maman, j’ai raté l’avion ! (ça recommence)”, the Airbnb vacancy location agency will be available for the purpose of passing a sejour for the fêtes of Christmas.
Afterwards, travelers could enjoy the Christmas decorations, relive Kevin’s tricks, or even try the legendary Chicago pizza or the famous macaroni and cheese.
