The prestigious Howard University in Washington canceled the diploma it had awarded in 2014 to rapper P. Diddy, alias Sean Combs, accused of violence by his ex-wife Cassie, the school announced on Friday.
“Mr. Combs’ behavior in a recent video is so inconsistent with the values of Howard University that he is no longer worthy of retaining our institution’s highest honor,” a spokesperson for the institution said.
The university also said it returned a $1 million donation to the rapper, ended a charitable giving agreement started in 2016 and dissolved a scholarship program in his name.
“Unforgivable” and “disgusting” behavior
CNN broadcast last month a video showing P. Diddy’s violent outburst against Cassie in 2016 at a Los Angeles hotel. He has since apologized for his behavior. “unforgivable” and “disgusting.”
The 54-year-old rapper and producer, who also goes by “Diddy,” “Puff Daddy” and “P. Diddy”, has faced several accusations of rape, sexual exploitation and physical and psychological violence since 2023.
Among them is a civil complaint filed in November by Cassie that accused her ex-partner of rape in 2018 and “violent” and “deviant” behavior for a decade. The case was finally resolved “amicably”.
Another complaint was filed against the rapper last month. Crystal McKinney, a former model, accused him of sexual assault in New York in 2003.
