The king, who announced in February that he was suffering from cancer, without specifying its nature, resumed his public activities at the end of April. If he continued his activities during this period, still receiving his red boxes and meeting the Prime Minister every week, he would have interrupted his official engagements.

His nephew Peter Philips told an Australian broadcaster how “frustrated” Charles was at not being able to resume his activities more quickly.
“They let me out of my cage,” Charles III joked on May 9, during a visit to a barracks in Surrey.
Since his medical team authorized him to resume his public activities, the king has increased his appearances at almost the same rate as before his illness. In particular, he appeared on Wednesday and Thursday on the occasion of the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Landing.
He thus praised – in French – “the incredible courage and sacrifice” of the French resistance fighters and the importance of “learning the lesson” of the war.
Princess Kate, on the other hand, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, has not appeared in public since December 2023. She sent a letter to the Soldiers of the Irish Guards to apologize for his absence during the military review on 8 June.
Kate announced in late March that she had cancer and was receiving preventive chemotherapy.
