Hollywood is full of these rough stories when it comes to the world of casting. The conversation became interesting when Horowitz asked the actor to reflect on some of the near misses in his career, such as being Stephenie Meyer’s first choice for the role of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga Movie. The man from UNCLE Star was frank about the narrow casting, saying he had no idea he was being sought for the lead role which ultimately went to Pattinson. Cavillo said:
Yes, I feel the rivalries with Batman. No, not at all, I didn’t know the film and they wanted to choose me. The internet wasn’t exactly the tool it is today. I didn’t find out until late and I thought, ‘Okay, that would be great.
Even though Cavill has more charm and charisma than you might imagine and would have done a great job as Cullen, it’s hard to imagine someone as brilliant as Pattinson. If we lose Edward’s original actor, we will miss out on all the hilarious video compilation of interviews with Robert Pattinson that seem either completely apathetic or completely bored with Dusk. I wouldn’t want to lose them for the world.
What’s particularly interesting about Meyer wanting Henry Cavill for the role of Edward is that it’s not the first time the two actors have played the same role. The Superman actor was nominated for the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a role that would eventually go to Pattinson. The actor revealed in the interview that he auditioned but was ultimately unsuccessful. cavillo says:
I definitely auditioned for it. [Potter] but he did not understand it.
The actor noted that he was overlooked by the Harry Potter some of her age at the time of the film’s casting. Cavill is three years older than Pattinson and by then she would have been in her early twenties. And, according to him, he was too old to play a kid in high school.
Cavill also took some time to reflect on another career that nearly failed, almost going so far as to play the starring role of the beloved. James Bond movie .
