David Gordon Green has completed his production produced by Blumhouse Halloween trilogy with the release of end of halloween. Despite ends it was divisive , One thing is certain; The film is an affectionate nod to the entire filmography of original series creator John Carpenter. green will be next take on another classic horror franchise – The exorcist. Given Carpenter’s involvement in Green’s Michael Meyers trilogy (he composed all the music for the trilogy), many wonder if he’s the OG of the franchise Director William Friedkin is rumored to be involved in the new trilogy. Green has now shed some light on this problem.
In a recent interview with Director’s magazine David Gordon Green talked about everything from fan reaction to his new one Halloween series to his desire to tell a love story within the confines of a long-running horror franchise. It didn’t take long for the conversation to shift to Green’s next project. exorcist film (the first of which he has already shot a lot) and whether Friedkin was involved or not. According to the director, he and his team decided to focus on character connections with the 1973 original rather than the team behind the lens. He said:
On this journey, we have chosen Ellen Burstyn as our spiritual guru. Our exorcist is narratively linked by her characters, but not in terms of stylistic parallels. I am not in favor of what Friedkin did, but I am inclined to delve into who Chris MacNeil is and what he has brought to the table. Without revealing too much, the tools and knowledge you’ve been using for fifty years find a new application. Ellen is the one we brought, and a year ago we toured with her for eight days doing technical and creative exploration, and next week we’re back in the ring. So, to answer your question, Friedkin is not involved in this.
William Friedkin has stated several times I never wanted to make a horror movie same The exorcist is considered one of the scariest and best horror movies always. The film was also critically flattered upon its release, garnering ten Oscar nominations, with Ellen Burstyn also earning a Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of Chris MacNeil. It may surprise some to learn that Friedkin is not involved in the new films in any way.
David Gordon Green, however, teased how they could bring the veteran director back into the fold for his soft reboot of the long-dormant franchise. He continued:
If he’s as good at making music as John Carpenter, we’ll make him do a song in the movie. You can make a trombone version of “Tubular Bells”.
I doubt a director can make horror music like John Carpenter, so I guess that doesn’t mean William Friedkin. While the OG director isn’t involved, it will be great to see Ellen Burstyn return to a role she refused to return to for five decades in the show’s five episodes. exorcist sequel and prequel (which we classified) . and the reason Burstyn has finally agreed to return it is even more impressive than his participation.
Rumor has it that the next sequel will focus on a father, played by hamilton Leslie Odom Jr., of a possessed child, seeks help from someone who has had a similar experience. Presumably, the Odom Jr. character will find help in Ellen Burstyn’s Chris MacNeil. Let’s hope David Gordon Green creates something new, but he still honors what his legendary predecessor did decades ago.
The so far untitled The exorcist will be released in theaters on October 13, 2023 and the next horror sequel, and its successors will finally be available to stream with a Peacock subscription.
