“Drug addiction can affect anyone”: Kate Middleton takes action against addiction

Godmother of a support organization for dependent people, the Princess of Wales sends a message to the latter.

Kate Middleton sends her support to people prone to addictions. In a video posted to Twitter over the weekend, the Princess of Wales talks about the dangers of what she calls a “serious mental disorder” and encourages those affected to seek help.

Prince William’s wife has been a patron of the Forward Trust since last year, a charity that helps people addicted to alcohol and drugs. as specified harper’s bazaarthis video was posted as part of an information campaign about the dangers of addiction, “Taking Action Against Addiction”:

“(Drug addiction) can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or nationality,” Kate Middleton said in the post. “I have met many people who suffer from the effects of addiction. People’s attitudes towards addiction are changing, but there is still room for improvement.”

“Even today, the shame of addiction prevents individuals and families from seeking help, and people continue to lose their lives in tragic conditions,” he continues.

“No one chooses to become a drug addict”

The video was recorded during October at Kensington Palace. Kate Middleton’s speech is intercut with footage of the Princess of Wales chatting with members of the Forward Trust last year when the same campaign was launched.

“As a society, we need to realize that the only way to help those who suffer is to try to understand what led them to addiction, show empathy towards them and compassion for what they are going through,” he says again.

And to conclude by sending “a message of support to those who continue to suffer”: “Know that addiction is not a choice. No one chooses to become an addict. I want you to also know that it is a serious medical condition. Please don’t let shame rob you of the help you so desperately need.”
