Discovery+ prepares a documentary about the trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

Just three months after the end of a long legal battle, the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard will be the subject of a documentary, broadcast on the Discovery+ platform on September 19.

Entitled Johnny vs. Amber: The Trial in the United StatesThis two-part program will give the floor to the lawyers of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, legal experts, relatives of the two ex-husbands as well as journalists.

Behind-the-scenes footage of the high-profile trial that took place between April and June 2022 will also be released.

“This documentary provides a forensic account of the key evidence and turning points in the case on both sides, allowing viewers to form their own opinion on who to believe,” specifies Discovery + in its synopsis, broadcast by the NME medium. .

As NME reports, the first episode of this documentary will be dedicated to Johnny Depp, the abuse he suffered during his childhood, “his drug addiction” but also “his version of events that shows that he himself was a victim of domestic violence.”

The second episode will detail Amber Heard’s story: “her detailed account of the alleged sexual assault told on camera for the first time” and how “Depp’s defenders relentlessly attacked her on social media,” specifies NME.

After a crowded trial, Amber Heard was sentenced in June to pay $10 million to Johnny Depp, who accused her of defamation for an article in the Washington Post in 2018 in which he claimed to have been a victim of “domestic violence”. Amber Heard got the actor to pay her $2 million.

The actress initially tried to annul the verdict to relaunch a new procedure due to doubts about the identity of one of the jurors. A request that Judge Penney Azcarate, who was presiding over the process in the Fairfax court, rejected on July 13, considering that the actress had not “suffered harm.”

At the end of July, the ex-wife of Johnny Depp appealed and hired new lawyers to lead this new legal battle.
