the fans of The Wizard mobilize. An online petition opposing Henry Cavill’s replacement by Liam Hemsworth in the title role, announced this weekend, has already collected nearly 45,000 signatures. The authors demand instead a replacement of the scriptwriters.
Netflix revealed last Saturday that season 3 of this fantasy series, scheduled for next summer, would be Henry Cavill’s last. Starting in season 4, it’s Australian Liam Hemsworth who will take on the armor of Geralt de Riv, monster hunter and hero of the show. News that angered fans of the program, adapted from the literary saga The Wizard by Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games that grew out of it.
“Netflix has once again made a terrible decision, which goes against the satisfaction of its fans,” reads the petition, started by a certain Stef Ma. “The reason for the success of the series ‘The Witcher’ comes from love from fans for source material, books and video games, which the writers (of the show) and its creator openly hate and mock.”
“Henry Cavill is one of those big fans, they say, he knows (this universe) inside out and he wanted to stay true to Sapkowski’s world. That’s why Netflix wants to replace it.”

“We’re going to show them, by the numbers (and therefore the loss of money, since that’s all they care about) that none of the fans of The Wizard will not support them and that we will be leaving the series (and possibly our subscriptions) after the end of Season 3,” the petition added. “Netflix only exists because we pay them every month to produce content that entertains us. Unfortunately, all the information coming to us suggests that the production team is making decisions that are totally against the interests of the fans.”
And to conclude by recalling the almost unanimous discontent at the end of game of ThronesHBO series that concluded in 2019: “Netflix, don’t make the same mistake of clinging to writers and creators who think they are superior to whoever created these stories and made them popular.”
Henry Cavill did not give the reasons for his replacement, but the announcement comes a few days after his return to the role of Superman.
