‘All I want for Christmas’: the man who accused Mariah Carey of plagiarism drops the charges

Andy Stone, a country singer, accused the star of being inspired by one of his songs and demanded 20 million dollars.

Mariah Carey will not spend Christmas in court. Country singer Andy Stone, who accused the American star of having been inspired by one of her songs to write the hit All I want for Christmas is youdemanded Tuesday that the charges be dropped.

The complaint filed last June in federal court in New Orleans was against Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff, with whom she wrote this Christmas anthem released in 1994. Andy Stone sued them for copyright infringement, reportedly. Rolling Stone: according to him, his song was a “derivative” of a title song he wrote, recorded and released as Vince Vance and the Valiants in 1989.

Andy Stone was seeking $20 million in damages. The reasons for dropping the charges were not disclosed but, as noted varietynothing prevents the musician from setting up a new file.
