Actor Michael Newman, star savior of the series baywatchdeceased. As his friend the director Matthew Felker announced on Instagram, the actor who played his own role on screen died this Sunday, October 20, at the age of 68.
He had suffered from Parkinson’s disease since 2006 and was the third most recurring actor in the series behind David Hasselhoff and Jeremy Jackson.
“I knew how important this series was to him and his life,” Matthew Felker said in his post. “I was able to see Mike before he passed away. (…) Before I left him, we read letters to him and played videos from friends from all walks of life, he knew they loved him.”
“A few days later, I lost my friend. A hero, my hero. Thank you for coming into my life, Newmie, even if it’s just for a short time,” he concluded.
The only real savior of the series.
Born in 1957, Michael Newman was the only real lifeguard to star in baywatch. He had been doing this job since he was 10 years old and continued working in parallel with the filming of the American series.
